"YOU ARE NOT ALL OVER THE PLACE. YOU ARE IN THE PROCESS."
Enough was enough. Eva couldn’t take it anymore. She had just served up the best ‘Coq au Vin’ she had ever made, but that didn’t stop head chef Michael yelling at her for no valid reason.
She was sick of the constant verbal abuse. Night after night, he unleashed a belligerent torrent at her, just because he could.
“No more,” thought Eva to herself, “He can find some other poor soul to torment”. She was getting out of there. Her self-respect was worth more than this job was worth, even though working at this fine-dining institution had always been her dream.
As Michael inhaled, getting ready for his next rant, Eva stripped off her apron and threw it at his face. Head held high, she marched straight past him, pleased to see his look of utter shock.
The next morning, she woke up to a phone call.
“You made the best Coq au Vin I have ever tasted,” exclaimed the voice on the other line, “I want you to come work for me.”
Eva quickly scribbled down the details the caller conveyed, almost letting out an audible gasp in the process. She had just been offered a job by world-renowned chef Alain Passard – the owner of Michelin star restaurant, Arpège.
